******************************************************************* * Notes on upgrading to version 8.30 from older software versions * ******************************************************************* The software version 8.30 for RPG's unpolarized ground-based radiometer models is a major release with significant changes and extensions relative to previous releases. In order to achieve a trouble free transition to version 8.30, the following steps should be followed (in the given sequence): 1. Before you start to overwrite the "2CH.EXE" and "R2CH.EXE" files of your previous installation, first save the old files to an arbitrary directory. 2CH.EXE can be downloaded from the radiometer PC for this purpose by using the 'File Transfer'-menu. 2. When connected to the radiometer, enter the host PC's 'Serial Interface'-menu and note the setting of the radiometer's connection type (auto-detect, 6 wire or 2 wire). After installation of version 8.30, the software will not accept the host configuration file 'R2CH.CFG' of older versions and will load a default configuration with 'auto-detect' as default. If your radiometer is using e.g. a 2-wire configuration, the attempt to connect to the radiometer will fail. 3. Enter the MDF-definition menu and load each of your MDFs into this menu. Note the MDF settings for each MDF (manually or use the 'Store ASCII Version' feature). Because the MDF format of versino 8.30 has been significantly changed, you must re-define your MDFs after switching to version 8.30. MDFs created by previous software versions will be rejected by 8.30 as 'invalid'. 4. Overwrite the 2CH.EXE file on the radiometer PC by the new version 8.30 (File Transfer-menu) and reboot the radiometer PC. 5. Overwrite the R2CH.EXE file on the host PC by the new version 8.30 and run the software. Enter the 'Serial INterface'-menu and switch to the correct connection type noted in step 2. 6. Connect to the radiometer PC. 7. Re-define your MDFs with version 8.30. 8. Also update the help system by loading the complete 'Help' including sub-directories from RPG's ftp server into the root directory (the directory where R2CH.EXE is store in) on the host PC. Ftp site: ftp://ftp.radiometer-physics.de/pub/Radiometer/HATPRO/Version_8_30/ 9. Load the Translation system directory (including sub-dirs) 'Translation' (not completed yet) into the host PC's root directory from: ftp://ftp.radiometer-physics.de/pub/Radiometer/HATPRO/Version_8_30/
